BOYS! BOYS! BOYS! MEETS ... Jacob Mallinson Bird
Dr Jacob Mallinson Bird (MA, MSt, DPhil) is an academic, dramaturg, and drag performer. As an academic, he is Lecturer in Music at The Queenâs and Somerville Colleges, University of Oxford; Affiliated Lecturer at the Faculty of Music, University of Cambridge; and Praeceptor in Music for Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. His doctoral research centred on drag lip-sync performance, focussing on ethnographic fieldwork on five London-based drag performers; his research has been published in Sound Studies, Contemporary Music Review, and Riffs and an upcoming monograph to be published with Bloomsbury Academic. His current research explores the intersections of noise theory and queer theory in contemporary noise music scenes. As a dramaturg, he worked on the one-man version of Mozartâs Le nozze di Figaro (directed by Dustin Wills) at New York Cityâs Little Island, as well as the Paris Operaâs 2026 production of Satyagraha at the Palais Garnier. As a research assistant he has also worked on Opera Philadelphiaâs 2024 production of The Listeners and Anthony Roth Costanzoâs upcoming book Countertenor (Farrar, Straus & Giroux). As a drag performer, Jacob regularly performs under the pseudonym Dinah Lux, with residencies at Roses of Elagabalus, The London EDITION, and Festival dâHyĂšres, as well as performing at Classical Pride, Wiltonâs Music Hall, and on the Venice-Simplon Orient Express. He has been featured in Vogue, Dazed, Another Man, i-D, GQ, and been an Attitude cover star, as well as being photographed by Nick Knight and Tim Walker. As a male model, he has walked for JW Anderson and Raf Simons, and has walked London, Paris, New York and Tokyo Fashion Weeks.Â
